🦴 How to Make a Skeleton Paper Craft Garland (Easy DIY Halloween Decoration)
Share
Every Halloween, I try to come up with decorations that are fun, affordable, and easy enough for kids to help with. One of my favorites is this skeleton paper craft garland. It’s made from simple paper rings (just like the old paper chains we used to make in school) and a few cut-out shapes. The result? A spooky, wiggly skeleton that looks adorable hanging on the wall or across a doorway.
What You’ll Need
White construction paper (or printer paper if that’s what you have on hand)
Scissors (safety scissors are great for kids)
Glue stick or tape
A black marker or crayon
That’s it — nothing fancy, just supplies you probably already have at home.

How to Make It
1. Start with the rings
Cut your paper into strips about an inch wide. Roll the first strip into a loop and glue it shut. Link the next strip through and glue that one too. Keep going until you have a little chain.
For the skeleton’s spine, make about 6–7 rings.
Each arm and leg should have about 3–4 rings.
2. Make the head
Cut out a circle or oval from white paper. Draw on two round eyes, a triangle nose, and a stitched smile. Glue the head right on top of the spine chain.
3. Add hands and feet
Trace your own hand or just draw cartoon-style gloves. Do the same for feet — simple shoes or ovals work fine. Glue them onto the ends of the arms and legs.
4. Put it all together
Attach the arms to the second ring from the top and the legs to the last ring at the bottom. Now you’ve got your skeleton ready to spook (and make people smile).
Fun Ways to Use It
Garland: Make a bunch of skeletons and hang them across your living room or classroom.
Wall or door decoration: Tape one to the door to welcome trick-or-treaters.
Kids’ project: Perfect for keeping kids busy at a Halloween party.
Photo backdrop: They look super cute in the background of Halloween pictures.

A Few Extra Touches
Use black or glow-in-the-dark paper for a fun twist.
Draw little spiders, cracks, or bow ties to give each skeleton personality.
Let kids decorate their own skeleton faces so no two look the same.
Why I Love This Craft
This project checks all the boxes for me:
It’s cheap (just paper, scissors, and glue).
It’s easy enough for kids, but still fun for adults.
It’s customizable — everyone’s skeleton turns out a little different.
And it’s eco-friendly, since it’s all just paper.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a Halloween decoration that’s fun to make and doesn’t cost a fortune, this skeleton paper craft is perfect. It’s a little spooky, a little silly, and definitely a conversation starter.
I’ve got a feeling once you make one, you’ll want to make a whole family of skeletons to hang up. Happy crafting, and happy Halloween! 🎃
